The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%, introduced on 1 January 2018. Ask every AC company whether its quoted maintenance price includes it, because quotes here are written both ways.
What the official position says
VAT was introduced across the UAE on 1 January 2018 at a standard rate of 5%. That is the Ministry of Finance wording, and it is the only tax figure this site publishes. We do not publish a VAT position for Qatar or Kuwait, because we have not verified one from an official source in those countries.
What we are not doing here is ruling on your supplier's tax treatment. Whether a particular company charges VAT depends on its registration and the nature of the supply, and that is a question for the company and its tax adviser, not for a price guide.
What does 5% add to a contract?
Enough to swallow the difference between two competing quotes. Applied to the reported range for most Dubai apartments, the arithmetic looks like this.

On a villa contract the gap is larger in money terms, and on a single call-out it is the price of a coffee. The figure matters most when you are choosing between companies, because a quote that excludes tax always looks better than one that includes it.
How to read a quote
- Look for the words "inclusive of VAT" or "exclusive of VAT" in the quotation itself, not in the sales message.
- If the quote is silent, ask for the total payable amount in writing.
- Ask whether extras are treated the same way. A contract priced with tax and gas recharges priced without it is the common mismatch.
- Keep the tax invoice. It is the document that shows what you were actually charged.
Does VAT change who pays in a rental?
